Cool Kids® Programs

The highly successful Cool Kids® programs are structured, skills-based programs that utilise Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to teach anxious children and teens, and their parents, how to better manage their anxiety in a variety of settings. Developed at Macquarie University by Professor Ron Rapee (recognised as the first researcher in the world to demonstrate the prevention of anxiety in young children), the Cool Kids® programs are continually evaluated and revised to include the latest understanding of anxiety and its treatment.

Outcomes: Research shows that young people who complete the Cool Kids® program have marked increases in school attendance, academic achievement, confidence, number of friends and involvement in activities.  And, decreases in worry, shyness, fear and family distress.

Parent involvement: One of the most beneficial aspects of the Cool Kids® programs is the involvement of parents in learning how best to parent their anxious child or teen. Helping anxious parents learn how to manage their own anxiety and model the skills learned, also benefits the parent, the child and the whole family.

Professor Jennie Hudson from Macquarie University’s Centre for Emotional Health talks to Weekend Today (ch 9) about childhood anxiety and the benefits of the Cool Kids program.

There are four versions of the Cool Kids® programs tailored to different age groups and needs. Please click on the relevant program for your child.
